Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q

Can I use it via Remote Desktop (RDP)?

A

Yes, it is also available via remote desktop.
For more information about using Remote Desktop, please refer to this page.

Q

I already have a YubiKey. Can I use that YubiKey for authentication?

A

No, I cannot.

We will sell you a YubiKey for YubiOn WindowsLogon Standalone with rewritten key secret information called AES information, and you will receive a license file that will allow you to use only that YubiKey. The AES information is required for the integrity check of Yubico OTP, but it is not possible to retrieve the AES information from the YubiKey that has been shipped from Yubico. Therefore, it is necessary to rewrite the AES information once, and the rewritten information must be included in the license file.

Q

Do I need a separate authentication server?

A

No separate authentication server is required.

YubiOn WindowsLogon Standalone verifies the entered OTP in the software and then passes the password part to the normal password checking process in Windows. Since the OTP verification is completed within the software, there is no need to prepare a new authentication server.

Q

Can I use it in an active directory (AD) environment?

A

Available.

YubiOn WindowsLogon Standalone verifies the entered OTP in the software and then passes the password part to the normal Windows password checking process. The same process can be used in the AD environment as well, since the password check process after OTP verification is the usual authentication in AD.

Q

Does it work with Windows Server?

A

Also available for Windows Server. Please refer to the product page for details on supported OS.

Q

Can I increase the number of YubiKeys used for logon?

A

This can be done by renewing the license.

If additional YubiKeys are needed, we will sell YubiKeys for YubiOn WindowsLogon Standalone and issue a new license file that allows the use of those YubiKeys. After loading the new license file into the configuration tool, you can increase the number of available YubiKeys without changing the configuration you are already using.

Q

How does authentication work?

A

In normal Windows, ID and password are verified, but YubiOn WindowsLogon Standalone verifies the OTP part of the password before the Windows verification process, and if there is no problem, normal Windows authentication is performed. If there is no problem, normal Windows authentication is performed. This means that there is no need to change the existing settings, and the burden on the customer at the time of installation is minimized.

Q

Authentication fails, what could it be?

A

Common causes of authentication failure include

  • Input was made with Caps lock enabled.

  • OTP is not being output correctly due to poor contact on the terminal's USB port or USB hub.
[One Time Password Output Confirmation Method]
    1. Insert the YubiKey into the USB port.
    2. Open a text editor.
    3. Touch the metal part of YubiKey.
If a 44-character string is output, it is normal. (Half-width input)

Q

I tried to uninstall the software, but it does not appear in the application list

A

YubiOn WIndowsLogon Standalone has the ability to hide itself from the list of installed applications. (Uninstall Control Function)
Please start the Configuration Tool and check the "Uninstall Control" item in the "Operational Settings" section. If it is set to "On", turn it to "Off" and it will appear in the application list.

Q

Can I use it even if I have USB restrictions on my PC?

A

YubiKey is recognized as a keyboard device and can be used if a USB keyboard is permitted.

Q

AD account does not appear in configuration tool assignments

A

For AD accounts, "AD accounts that have been logged on once" are covered. After logging on with the AD account you wish to set up, please use the configuration tool to set up the assignment. If the secure mode is on, please turn it off and log on with the password before setting.

Q

Does it work in safe mode?

A

Yes, it works. If Secure Mode is on, YubiKey is required for logon even when booted in Safe Mode. If Secure Mode is off, logon using only the password is possible when booted in Safe Mode.

Q

Can I use my YubiKey?

A

Yes, you can use it if you provide the private key information of the YubiKey used for authentication.

Please check this page for details.
